STORY:

My boyfriend is turning 44. We met last year just before his birthday. It was through an on-line dating service....etc.

One year ago on this very day

I didn’t know it was your birthday

But what I knew even less than this

Is I was just weeks away from tasting your kiss

Reaching out into the stars

It was almost like searching on Mars

Looking for my perfect match

A scheme I was hoping would hatch

Then suddenly most unexpected

On-line with this man I connected

Innocent, without a clue

That I was actually talking to you!

It came as the greatest surprise

When you finally dropped the disguise

Like a little school girl I did blush

And instantly developed a crush

Now it’s been almost a year

And it’s become increasingly clear

That you’re the one I’d been waiting for

And I will love you forever more

To our Grandson, on Your 18th Birthday

STORY:

Our Grandson is turning 18 and we just can't believe it. We practically raised him because our son and his wife were very busy building their careers while he was growing up. He is an only child but was never alone thanks to his extended family. We would like to write a poem that won't embarrass him but that will let him know how honored we feel to have played this special role in his life. Here are a few details....

POEM:

As a child when your parents went to work
You stayed home with us and drove us berserk
Throwing things in the house like a toy or a ball
You often drove me and grandpa up the wall

Sometimes in the afternoon you got bored
Maybe I was too busy and you felt ignored
So we’d play on the bed and it made you feel better
You always laughed when I tied your socks together

We miss those days and wish we could go back
Just once to give you a bath and make you a snack
Even when we got cranky it was truly our pleasure
The fun we had with you can have no measure

Now you’re 18, a man, old enough to drive cars
You’re going to college and even going to bars
But we’ll never forget our moments of joy
The years we shared when you were just a boy
